Lyvia LEONG

Lyvia is a Malaysian from Cheras who moved to Sydney in 2022 to pursue a Bachelor of Computing at the University of Sydney. Like many international students, starting a new life in Australia came with its share of challenges - from adjusting to a new environment to navigating studies, internships, career opportunities, and the all-too-familiar hunt for the next rental.

Through it all, she discovered how meaningful it is to have a community that reminds you of home. Sometimes it's advice from someone who's been in your shoes, and sometimes it's simply knowing you're not alone. To her, that's what the Australian Malaysian Singaporean Association is all about - It's the comfort of hearing a familiar accent, someone saying "walau eh!", or discovering another person who speaks your dialect. Sometimes, it's the smallest moments that remind you you're not alone - and that home can be found in the people around you.
