Dr Yeow-Tong Chia is Senior Lecturer in History Education with the Sydney School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney, where he is also the Country Coordinator for Singapore at the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC). He is also the NSW Convenor of the Asian Australian Alliance and President of the Malaysia and Singapore Society of Australia (MASSA) – the peak academic association on Malaysia and Singapore Studies in Australia.

Yeow-Tong strongly believes that the university and academia should actively engage the public. He has organised several public seminars and webinars for SSEAC and MASSA on various issues and topics on Malaysian and Singaporean politics and society, and has been interviewed by SBS radio and other news media on his views on Singapore. He hopes to facilitate a closer engagement between the university and the Malaysian and Singaporean community in New South Wales and beyond.

Even though he is born and raised in Singapore, Yeow-Tong concedes that Malaysia retains its rich culinary heritage, whereas the food culture in Singapore risks becoming a monument. He hopes to do a culinary heritage tour of Malaysia someday.
